The proposal for the ZIL theatre in the new ZIL development zone in Moscow was part of an art boulevard street next to the new Hermitage museum which Asymptote is also projecting. The client required a schematic design for a new multifunctional performance space with up to 4000 seats. The building was allowed to occupy a 60x60m lot which inspired our design for two bodies emerging from the site. The performance space should be multifunctional and adaptive to host different venues which resulted in a partly mechanical floorspace inside the auditorium.
My personal responsibility in this project were lead designer, conceptual design of the envelope, form studies, as well as surface optimization in grasshopper.
